Christian Eriksen 'truly happy' at Inter Milan under Antonio Conte

Christian Eriksen admits he ‘didn’t understand Antonio Conte before, but then learned his organised football’ as playmaker says he is ‘truly happy’ at Inter Milan after Serie A title triumph – just months after looking set to leave

  • Christian Eriksen has had a change of fortunes at Inter Milan in recent months
  • The 29-year-old looked set to leave the club during the January transfer window
  • But he says he has understood the tactics of Antonio Conte and is reinvigorated

Christian Eriksen has warned Inter Milan’s Italian rivals that they are building towards a dynasty – with the previously much-maligned playmaker reinvigorated to be a part of that after learning the methods of manager Antonio Conte.

Eriksen’s time at Inter has been a rollercoaster since joining in £17.5million transfer from Tottenham in January 2020 with the Dane reportedly heading out of the San Siro door during this year’s winter window.

He had dropped down dropped down the pecking order under Conte – with reports in November suggesting that the latter was ‘disappointed’ in the 29-year-old’s output.

Eriksen’s future at Inter had been in doubt earlier this season with Conte ‘disappointed’ by him

However, Eriksen says he has been reinvigorated after finally understanding Conte’s methods

Now the 29-year-old can reflect upon being a Serie A title after Inter’s 11-year wait has ended

That same month, Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta suggested that the Italian giants are willing to listen to offers for Eriksen too.

However, none of that materialised and Eriksen can reflect upon this campaign as a Serie A title-winner following Inter’s first triumph in 11 years that was confirmed on Sunday.

And reflecting on his own personal improvement, Eriksen says the turning point was when it all clicked with Conte.

‘I didn’t understand the coach before, but then I learned his organised football,’ he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

‘Now I am truly happy and I’ll become a real Milanese citizen.

‘It’s only the beginning at Inter. We want to build a new era. Conte makes you win.’

Eriksen has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Inter so far this season, scoring three goals – including the first in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Crotone.
