Cristiano Ronaldo completed his emotional return to Manchester United on deadline day, 12 years after he left the club for Real Madrid. The announcement finally brought an end to the eagerly anticipated wait as the Portuguese star was unveiled as a United player once more.
Ronaldo has re-joined the club from Juventus in a move worth £19.6million after expressing his desire to leave the Serie A giants.
For a moment it looked as though United’s bitter neighbours Manchester City were going to sign the forward, however Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side eventually stole Ronaldo from their rivals grasp.
One of the main reasons why Ronaldo opted for United and not City is former boss Sir Alex Ferguson – who the 36-year-old credits for the move.
The pair reportedly had a chat in which the former United manager convinced the Portuguese star to complete his sensational return.

Ferguson signed Ronaldo from Sporting CP in 2003 as a youngster, and under his leadership he became a global superstar.
“As everybody knows, since I signed for Manchester [United] at 18, Sir Alex Ferguson was the key,” Ronaldo told MUTV.
“I remember when we played against Manchester when I was at Sporting Lisbon.
“For me, Sir Alex Ferguson is like a father in football for me. He helped me a lot, he taught me many things, and in my opinion of course he had a big role because the relationship that we had, we keep in touch all the time, and he’s an unbelievable person.

“I really like him a lot and he was the main key for me to be in the position that I am, that I signed for Manchester United.”
Ronaldo is currently away on international duty with his country for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, but will join up with his team-mates upon his return from the national side.
However, the five-time Ballon d’Or also spoke highly of current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who played with Ronaldo during his first spell at the club.
“Well, we had a chat, but of course I’m going to have time to speak with him face to face, to know what he expects,” Ronaldo said.
“As you know, I played with him for two or three years at Manchester United so I have a good relationship with him but now with a different role, I’m a player and he’s a coach.
“But it doesn’t matter, my relationship with him is great and as I say before, I’m there in Manchester to help the team achieve his results and the coach can count on me for whatever he wants. So I’m available for everything.”
Ronaldo is set to make his debut at Old Trafford against Newcastle a week on Saturday.
