Cristiano Ronaldos move to Man Utd was finalised in Gary Linekers garden

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United was completed in his garden.

Ronaldo moved back to Old Trafford on transfer deadline day in a £20million deal with Serie A giants Juventus, 12 years after he departed for Real Madrid for a then world-record fee.

United announced they had agreed a fee with Juve on the Friday before deadline day, with the deal finally completed on the final day of business.

The Portuguese superstar signed a two-year contract to return to Manchester, with his deal containing the option of an extra year.

And Lineker has now disclosed that the final negotiations on the part of United were conducted in his garden.

The former Barcelona striker is a neighbour and close friend of United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who led the talks on the part of United.

It appears that negotiations were still taking place on deadline day, with Lineker now claiming Woodward discussed the deal with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes while at the presenter’s house.

“I'll put my cards on the table – Ed Woodward is a good friend of mine and lives next door,” Lineker told the Match of the Day Top 10 podcast.
