Darwin Nunez ready to miss Uruguay game and fly today to seal Liverpool deal

Darwin Nunez could sign for Liverpool as soon as today, claim reports.

The Uruguayan forward looks set to join the Anfield club as a replacement for wantaway star Sadio Mane. And it has now emerged that Nunez could miss Uruguay's friendly with Panama on Saturday evening in order to wrap up a move to Jurgen Klopp's side.

That is according to Uruguayan journalist Diego Jokas, who wrote on Twitter: "Darwin Nunez would not be in Uruguay tomorrow [Saturday] and the intention is that he will travel in the next few hours to be able to sign with LFC for 80 million Euros plus 20 in bonuses."

Liverpool's move for Nunez looks increasingly close to completion just one day after Portuguese outlet O Jogo reported that Benfica had accepted a bid worth around £85million for the star.

The former Almeria and Penarol man had also been linked with a switch to Manchester United, but it appears their north west rivals Liverpool have won the race to sign one of Europe's hottest prospects.

Ex-Reds midfielder Danny Murphy revealed what to expect from the youngster, who scored 34 goals in all competitions this season, including two against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Murphy told the White and Jordan show: "I watched him three times in the space of six weeks. One thing I really liked about him was that he is dynamic.

"He’s a very Klopp-type player with high energy, both with and without the ball. He doesn’t mind a press and saw him running back a few times. When he hasn’t got the ball, he doesn’t mind running in behind. He’s more of a number nine, he’s not going to play out wide."

Nunez's impending arrival makes it increasingly unlikely that Mane will remain at Anfield as the Senegalese forward moves closer to a switch to Bayern Munich. It is understood Bayern coach Julian Nagelesmann has spoken to Mane in recent days ahead of his potential move to the Allianz Arena.
