Edinson Cavani backed to emulate ‘killer’ Cristiano Ronaldo at Man Utd

New Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has been backed to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo ’s success in the Premier League.

Cavani joined United on transfer deadline day after he was released by PSG.

The Uruguayan is coming to the end of his career, but has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world on the biggest stage.

Cavani is known to a be a proven goal scorer, ready to strike when he’s in the penalty area.

But a source at Napoli insists there is more the 33-year-old than that because he is always working to improve every aspect of his game – especially physically.

The player admits that he is a “killer” in the box, and compared his work ethic to that of former United star Ronaldo, who is known to be a tough trainer on the pitch and in the gym.

“He is a top, top professional,” they told The Athletic. “At Napoli, most players finish training and go around the corner to the golf course. But he went for runs by himself and he would be the first in and last out.

“He is kind of like Cristiano (Ronaldo), very on top of his body, a top professional and quite selfish on the pitch. He wants to take every penalty and finish every counter-attack — a proper killer on the pitch.

“He is very good for the team, pushing everyone forward, on top of everyone else and making them perform. The players missed him when he left.

“He was a top player on the pitch but also in training. The fans were furious when he left for PSG but he was a big player and they felt betrayed. But what can you do if PSG wants someone? He has a top mentality.”
