Edinson Cavani has again stated his desire to leave Manchester United at the end of the season, according to reports.
The Uruguayan signed for the Red Devils last summer on a free transfer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
And in his first season in English football, the forward has impressed, scoring ten times in all competitions.
But with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, his future was thrown into doubt when the player’s father Luis claimed he wished to return to South America.
Luis added that Cavani would like to join Boca Juniors and has found it “uncomfortable” living so far away from his family.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he has held ‘honest’ meetings with the 34-year-old, with the hope he will remain at Old Trafford beyond this season.
That’s a claim backed up by Argentinian news outlet Depo, who state that Cavani has held meetings with Red Devils representatives ‘in the last hours’.
The report adds that he will turn down offers from Brazil in order to join Boca, despite his national team manager instructing him to stay in Europe.
Speaking earlier this month, Solskjaer made it perfectly clear that he would like the veteran striker to stay at the club, but understands his dilemma in regards to not seeing family.
“For a new lad who doesn’t speak English and not having his family over here, of course it’s in the back of his head [returning to South American],” the United boss explained after the win over Tottenham.
“If he decides it’s just the season then we’d be very happy to have had him here.
“We’ve had up front and honest meetings,“ Solskjaer added. ”It’s no secret we want to keep him. I don’t think it’s any secret too that this has been a difficult year for everyone.
“With the pandemic it’s not been possible to have friends over, family over without quarantine. You can’t travel.
"He’s not been able to experience the fantastic culture in Manchester and in and around in England, and he is contemplating and thinking hard and long about what he wants to do and I understand.
“He knows what we want; I want him in Old Trafford when it’s full, Stretford End scoring a diving header like today. There’s no better feeling, so let’s wait and see.”
