Erling Haaland ‘available for just £65million’ as Real Madrid eye transfer raid

Erling Haaland is the subject of interest from Real Madrid as they consider matching his £65m buy-out clause which is active in 2021.

The 19-year-old has taken European football by storm this season and has gone from strength-to-strength since joining Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg, taking his overall tally to 40 goals in just 30 appearances.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have been widely linked with a move for PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, but Haaland could cost the club almost £200m less than the France international.

The Sun have reported that the Norway striker will be available for just £65m next year due to a clause placed in his contract by agent Mino Raiola, with Mbappe’s price tag standing closer to £250m.

Haaland outshined the 21-year-old during their recent Champions League meeting in Germany as he hit two goals to hand his team a 2-1 aggregate lead going into the second leg.

In what is a good example of his mindset as a player, the striker was adamant that he still has a long way to go to reach his peak despite having 10 European goals to his name so far this season.

He said after the unexpected round of 16 victory: “I have to play better at this level.

“I have to work hard to improve. The result is quite a dangerous one, as PSG has a very strong team and can still go through in the return leg."

Haaland was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer but talks broke down amid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s fractured relationship with agent Raiola.

Despite some disappointment among fans, Liverpool hero Jamie Redknapp believes he has fully justified his decision by hitting the ground running in the Bundesliga.

He said in his Daily Mail column: “Though Manchester United were linked, I believe Haaland made the right call in deciding to cut his teeth in the Bundesliga.”

Erling’s father Alf-Inge Haaland played in Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Manchester City over a ten-year period in England, leaving Redknapp wary of any pressure that has been placed on the forward’s shoulders.

The former England midfielder added: “It isn't easy trying to follow in your old man's footsteps.

“In fact, it puts more pressure on you because people pre-judge you.

“‘Oh, he's so-and-so's son…' I made it into professional football, and so did Frank Lampard, Jordi Cruyff and Paul Dalglish, among others.
