Everton midfielder James Rodriguez is reportedly in Qatar to hold talks with a club over a potential transfer away from the Premier League club.
Rodriguez has not played a single minute under Rafa Benitez this season and the club are keen to get his £200,000 per week wages off the books.
The 30-year-old held talks over a return to Porto in the summer transfer window but a deal could not be agreed with the Portuguese club.
However, Qatar could provide a solution for all parties, with the transfer window open until September 30 in the Middle Eastern country.
Benitez has spoken openly about his desire to find a home for Rodriguez, who joined the club from Real Madrid in September 2020.
"It's always up to the player,” he said prior to the win over Burnley on September 11.
“In the end he has the final decision. Some markets are open and then we had some problem with the financial fair play rules, so we need to consider any option and see what happens.”
Rodriguez joined the Toffees on a two-year contract with the option of a third a year ago due to his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti, who managed him at the Spanish giants.
According toSky Sports, he is the highest-paid player in the Toffees’ history, but his future has been in some doubt ever since Ancelotti left the club to re-join Real in June.

Rodriguez contributed six goals and nine assists in 26 appearances across all competitions last season but has been frozen out by Benitez.
The Colombian international has angered some supporters by sharing his thoughts openly on streaming platform Twitch, including the admission that he didn’t know who Everton were playing.
“I am physically fine,” Rodriguez said on Twitch on September 11.
“Don’t believe everything they say. I am training well, I feel good and prepared for what will happen to me and what is coming.”
Rodriguez, who won the Golden Ball at the 2014 World Cup, has previously played for Real Madrid, Porto and Monaco, while also spending time on loan at Bayern Munich.
