Fluent in five languages and possessing a business degree in banking before joining Tottenham – it was no surprise to see Ramon Vega flourishing in retirement.
Vega, now 50, played for Grasshoppers in his home country before moving to the Premier League via Cagliari, later winning a domestic treble with Celtic before joining Watford.
But unlike most footballers, it was after retirement when his career got interesting. He founded Vega Swiss Asset Management after calling it a day and watched his company pocket millions in no time before before it all came crashing down. The Times reported that VSAM once managed more than $1billion (£820million) for clients in the currency and bond trade.
They add that Vega made a profit of £13m on Italian government bonds in 2012, but things took a turn for worse with fees of £180,000 needing to be paid back to clients on the order of UK based ombudsman.
Then, in 2020, Vega Swiss Asset Management was wound up following investment losses, with the Mayfair-based firm beginning to struggle with their pool of wealthy investors diminishing.
Vega then told Financial News it had been his intention close the firm for a while.

He said: "This is not something I decided yesterday. I’ve been trying to close it in the last two to three years.
"There’s nothing particularly wrong, I’m just going in a different direction.
"When Brexit came in place and everything was uncertain regarding tax and regulation, there was also a question mark whether you should have this type of business in London.
"With smaller firms, you just don’t know what will happen and I decided to get out."
Since calling time on his career, Vega also opened his own soccer school in Spain, having previously bought a stake in a Romford Soccer Shop.
More recently, Vega announced that he was considering standing as a candidate in the FIFA presidential election before the re-election of Gianni Infantino.
