Fans say Frenkie de Jong already sounds like Man Utd flop after ‘disappointment’

Fans believe that Frenkie de Jong already sounds like a Manchester United player after his latest disappointment.

United have been strongly linked with a move for the Dutch midfielder this summer as new manager Erik ten Hag seeks a reunion with the former Ajax star. Ten Hag is understood to have convinced De Jong to move to Old Trafford after holding crunch talks with the 25-year-old.

Some fans even believe that De Jong already sounds like a United player following his social media post after he played in the Netherlands' 2-2 draw with Poland in the Nations League on Saturday.

De Jong tweeted a selection of pictures from the match and wrote: “Disappointed to not get the win but great fighting spirit from the team.”

Both rival and United supporters quickly drew comparisons to the social media posts of several United flops from last season's underwhelming campaign, which saw constant online apologies for performances.

One fan tweeted: “Boy already sounds Manchester United-ish-ish…bring him.” Another added: “These words seem familiar to United lads.”

A third supporter also wrote: “Frenkie DingDong already acting like a Man Utd player.” Meanwhile, a third fan tweeted: “All he needs to add is "we go again!" And he's a true Man Utd player.”

Should Frenkie de Jong join Manchester United this summer? Let us know in the comments section below.

An emotional United fan tweeted: “Manchester United PR spin tactics already mastered, tears in my eyes.” Another wrote: “Might as well have this saved in the drafts if he joins Man United.”

The Red Devils finished on their lowest points tally in the Premier League era last season as interim boss Ralf Rangnick failed to save the club's season following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking in November.

United finished the season in sixth place, missing out on the Champions League and failing to win a trophy for the fifth campaign in a row, their longest run without silverware since the early 1970s.

New boss Ten Hag will hope to return the club to the top four next season and begin challenging for trophies again, although he has yet to make any additions to his squad.
