Fans have called Cristiano Ronaldo a "backstabber" after he labelled ex-Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney a "rat."
Ronaldo sat down for a hugely controversial 90-minute interview with Piers Morgan, where he vented his fury at the United hierarchy, managers past and present, and even fellow club legend Rooney.
The Red Devils had been advised to part ways with the 37-year-old by Rooney in recent times based on his loss of form this season, leading Ronaldo to lash out during the TalkTV sit down.

The Portuguese superstar said: “I don’t know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at high level,” before adding: “I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true…”

Later, answering a question on whether he has more pounds in the bank or Instagram followers, Ronaldo said: “Probably similar,” to which a chortling Morgan replied: “I’m just trying to work out how Wayne Rooney can hate you even more and probably, that’s the answer.”
Ronaldo interjected: “Not only him, imagine the rest of the rats that are going to criticise me too,” before Piers erupted into laughter.
But fans have taken issue with Ronaldo’s disrespectful jibes towards his former teammate, who he spent five years with at Old Trafford. And they have pointed to old footage where the Englishman comes to the defence of a young Ronaldo on the pitch as evidence.
In the footage, the twinkle-toed Ronaldo is brutally hacked down by a Middlesbrough player. Rooney then intervenes with some stern words towards the offender before pushing and shoving ensues.
A Rooney fan account tweeted the clip with the caption: “This is the way Rooney used to stand up for Ronaldo when they were teammates. Sacrificed himself and accommodated Ronaldo so he could succeed.
“@Cristiano has now backstabbed him because of some constructive criticism. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
