Fans split over Stuart Dallas shirts for Leeds fans at Arsenal after bad injury

Leeds United supporters have been left embarrassed after their club produced a “cringey” show of support for star player Stuart Dallas.

Dallas is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury in a challenge with Manchester City’s Jack Grealish last weekend. The Northern Irish international was carried off on a stretcher following a hefty collision in the 4-0 defeat on April 30.

Dallas was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment and later down to London to undergo surgery after it was determined he had sustained a femoral fracture. “It is impossible to put into words just how important Stuart is to Leeds United on and off the field,” the club said in a statement.

Leeds have now tried to sum up how important the 31-year-old is by producing T-shirts with a picture of him and the phrase “there’s only one Stuart Dallas” on. The T-shirts have been put on every seat in the away section at the Emirates Stadium for Sunday’s 2pm kick-off against Arsenal.

The move does not appear to have gone down well with Leeds supporters, however, with many feeling as though it is over the top. “I'm a massive fan of Stuey but this is just too much. And unnecessary. Hard pass,” wrote one fan underneathLeeds’ Twitter post.

“Jesus we deserve relegating just for these,” added another. “He’s not dead lads,” pointed out another. “Honestly embarrassed by this,” wrote one supporter.

“Oh for f*** sake PR United again why won't they just learn our fans don't need this s***,” concluded one fan, but others were broadly in support of it. “It's a show of support for our player of the season,” wrote one. “Nice idea but execution of it is a little cringe,” added another. “

“It will look amazing with the away end completely white but could you just put marching on together on them because as great of a gesture that is it looks like Dallas as passed away,” wrote another in a comment which seems to have summed up most fans’ feelings on the subject.

Leeds will be without Dallas for the match at the Emirates, which could be crucial in their efforts to avoid relegation. Jesse Marsch’s side are currently in 17th place, two points above Everton, although Frank Lampard’s side have a game in-hand.
