Mikel Arteta lost his cool as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang slid in late on Ben White during Arsenal's clash against Chelsea.

The two sides produced something of a sedate start to proceedings at Stamford Bridge. But that all changed when Aubameyang, an Arsenal player from 2018 until earlier this year, went in hard on Gunners defender White.

White had the ball out on the right-hand side and had just released it when Aubameyang came sliding in. The Gabonese star failed to make contact with the ball and completely cleaned out his former team-mate, sparking fury among the Arsenal coaching staff – and particularly Arteta.

The Spanish boss leapt into the air, throwing his arms about wildly in a fit of rage. He then marched slightly further down the touchline to direct his anger at the linesman.

Despite his protestations, Aubameyang only received a yellow card from referee Michael Oliver and gave a quick handshake to White as the pair got on with the game.

Should Aubameyang have been sent off for his challenge on Ben White? Let us know in the comments section.

However, football fans on social media weren't quite as quick to forget the challenge. Arsenal fans raged at Aubameyang, while others accused Arteta of using his touchline antics to try and get the former Emirates favourite sent off.

One person said: "Arteta go soon enter field and slap Aubameyang." As another added: "Mikel Arteta hates Aubameyang." A third user wrote: "Aubameyang first to be carded. Look at Arteta's reaction LMAO."

Another commenter chimed in with: "The way Arteta is shouting and dancing up and down. He wanted red for Aubameyang." Others agreed, with one person saying: "Arteta's a joke, man! Dying to get Aubameyang sent off there."

Aubameyang remained on the field for the rest of the half but was unable to give Chelsea the lead as the two sides went in level at the break.
