Newcastle United’s newfound ownership has given them a wealth which is worth more than all other Premier League teams combined. A string of world-class players have been linked with the club ahead of the January transfer window, though it seems they will target cheaper and experienced players in the winter window. But which out-of-contract players could the Magpies sign on the cheap? Express Sport takes a look at who could be an attainable target for the north east club.
Newcastle may not be signing big stars for their new-look first XI – a bit of Premier League nous would be ideal to ease them in to the start of their money-laden journey.
Tarkowski is a player who has played in 166 Premier League games for Burnley over five years, missing just twelve league games since the start of 2017.
Available on a free in the summer, it would mean that Newcastle have a solid foundation to build upon after years of defensive frailties – and Burnley may just cave in and take a fee for him in January.
Lingard is another player whose contract is expiring in the summer, and with just nine appearances for Manchester United in the last season and a half, he is likely to be issued away from Old Trafford.
The midfielder will look to his time at West Ham where he was the star player in a mid-table side, and could see himself shining once again for the Magpies.
With United needing the money for a defensive midfielder, they could sell Lingard to fund a move for another midfield maestro of their own.
And with Lingard having earned his way back into the England setup in his time at the London Stadium, it could be a great deal for both clubs.

Belotti has become somewhat of a forgotten figure in the last few years.
Having scored 26 in Serie A in 2016/17 – just two behind stalwarts Edin Dzeko and Dries Mertens – Belotti’s stock was high at the age of 24.
However, despite attaining double figures in league goals every year since then, Belotti hasn’t earned the move to the big leagues that he would like. Newcastle’s star striker in the making, Belotti would represent a superb free transfer.

Bale showed his excellence in the Premier League last season with 11 goals in just 20 league games for Tottenham, although his contributions weren’t enough to warrant Spurs with a Champions League place.
Having excelled throughout the years at Tottenham and Real Madrid, Bale’s pedigree is unrivalled.
And with just three appearances this season, Newcastle could offer him the big wages that put Spurs off his permanent signature in a bid to tempt him to St James’ Park.
