Gary Neville has written off Arsenal’s title chances by declaring Manchester City could win the Premier League by 20 points. The Gunners currently sit top of the table but Neville has backed City to be champions for a fifth time in six seasons.

Arsenal ended Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the campaign in Saturday’s north London derby at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta’s side won 3-1 to open up a gap to their local rivals.

City responded in emphatic fashion on Sunday, beating Manchester United 6-3 in their own derby clash. Erling Haaland scored his third hat-trick in just eight games to extend his phenomenal start in English football.

Pep Guardiola’s side are one point behind Arsenal but already have a far superior goal difference. City strolled into a 4-0 lead in the first half against United.

Neville was pleased to see the Red Devils show some fight with three second-half goals. However, he believes City have shown they can comfortably win the title this season, despite Arsenal’s impressive start.

He said on the Gary Neville podcast: “They responded in the second half and were playing against something that is just abnormal in Haaland and City. I think they can win this league by 15-20 points.

“It feels like a ridiculous statement to make when they’re not even top of the league at this moment in time – but I think they’re that good.

“When the league settles down, when they start to really get into it. The signs are there, they’re scoring that many goals, they’ve got three of their best players missing today.

“I just feel like they can win this league quite easily. I hope it’s not the case, obviously, because I want us to have competition and it to be really a fascinating season and for them to be pushed all the way, if not to be beaten.

“But I just feel like what I’ve watched there is something exceptional.” Haaland has now scored 14 league goals in just eight matches in a City shirt.

And the Norwegian was delighted with how his first Manchester derby went. He said: “Yeah, not bad! We scored six goals, what can you say?

“It’s amazing, to win at home and score six goals, yeah, it’s nice. I felt it a little bit before the game that something special was going to happen and we saw today that some special things happened. It was nice.

“On Friday I felt it in the whole training ground. It’s these games I want to play in. These are the best games where there’s a bit extra.”
