Harry Maguire’s red card for England has sparked a plea from Manchester United fans to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Englishman made a bad start to the Three Lions’ Nations League clash against Denmark, picking up a yellow card for a strong tackle of Yussuf Poulsen.

But it was an error on 32 minutes that led to him seeing red.

Maguire took a heavy touch from a back pass by Declan Rice in his own half, putting it straight into the Dane’s path to an clear pitch behind him.

Sliding in, the United captain left the studs of his right boot in, seeing referee Jesus Gil Manzano go to his back pocket.

It is the latest humiliation for the centre-back, coming one-and-a-half weeks after losing 6-1 to Tottenham.

The United captain was picked out for criticism for his part in the first goal as well as a clash with Marcus Rashford.

While the £80m was also at the centre of a dramatic summer, being found guilty of three charges following a brawl on the Greek island of Mykonos.

It saw club legend Gary Neville say on commentary: "That sums up his last four to six weeks. It's a terrible time for him.

"I thought he was lucky with the first challenge. That was in between a yellow and a red.

"It's scruffy play from him. The touch is really slack and then the follow through…"

And it saw supporters of the Old Trafford suggest the £80m defender should take some time off.

“Maguire shouldn’t start on Saturday… the guy needs a break,” one supporter said.

Another commented: “Really think Maguire just needs to be taken away from the limelight for a minute.”

While a third held nothing back, with: “Maguire shouldn’t start for us this weekend, for f***s sake.”

And a fourth simply added: “Maguire cannot start on Saturday – absolute bag of w***.”

A fifth suggested keeping the defender out for a while, with: "Maguire needs taking out of the team for a while – head's completely gone."

With a sixth simply writing: "He needs to readjust and sort his head out."

This was something club legend Patrice Evra called for after the club's thumping by Spurs earlier this month.

“I know you have to have some filter when you talk on TV but it is a shambles,” the former United ace said on Sky Sports.

“Gary Neville, I heard him say captain Harry Maguire needs a holiday. We always hear about pairing him with someone. But what about taking him out of the squad?"

While some have suggested Maguire's struggles are down to the Englishman being played in the wrong position.
