Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the first players to offer up their condolences to a distraught Bruno Fernandes, who had just missed a penalty to rescue a point against Aston Villa. There had been fierce debate among the football world as to who would be on spot-kick duties for United, and although that question was answered on Saturday afternoon, it remains to be seen what impact the miss will have going forward.
Villa dramatically took a late lead through centre-back Kortney Hause, giving United little time to respond.
The goalscorer was then at fault for the stoppage-time penalty, handling the ball in the area which presented the Red Devils with a golden opportunity to draw level.
Since Ronaldo sealed his return to the club, constant debate surrounded who would be on set-piece duty, but it was Fernandes who picked up the ball.
Despite his exemplary record from the spot which only saw him miss once before in a United shirt, he blazed it wildly over the bar.

Instead of performing his usual hop before striking the ball, Fernandes ran straight up before completely misjudging the strike.
It was a surreal series of events considering United took all three points from West Ham last weekend when penalty drama went their way courtesy of a David De Gea save.
The Old Trafford crowd was stunned into silence, while the travelling support were in euphoria as the sight of Fernandes from the spot is normally a certain goal.
Questions will now be raised as to who will take spot-kicks going forward, with Ronaldo in superb form since signing from Juventus, notching four goals in four games.

However, that did not stop the 36-year-old consoling his compatriot after the miss, a sign of his maturity as a team-mate when a younger version of Ronaldo may have been reeling from the snub.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decisions to make going forward, but the more pressing issue lies in the fact that they have now lost three of their past four games.
West Ham, Aston Villa and Young Boys have all emerged victorious from encounters with the Red Devils over the past couple of weeks, a worrying sign considering their Premier League title ambitions.
In fact, the only victory in that four-game sequence came at the London Stadium when De Gea’s stoppage-time save scraped the three points by the skin of their teeth.
Solskjaer’s miserable start to the weekend was no doubt compounded after the final whistle when discovering that local rivals Manchester City had won away at Stamford Bridge.
United simply cannot afford to be dropping points like this if they are to keep pace with the division’s big hitters this campaign.
It is a worrying run of form for United, but thankfully they have the raw talent within their ranks to stem the tide.
