Hugo Lloris gives honest opinion on Man Utd star Paul Pogba

Hugo Lloris has labelled Paul Pogba a ‘leader’ as he made his first competitive appearance for France in 12 months.

Pogba has endured a difficult start to the season, coming under increasing scrutiny for his performances at Manchester United.

The Red Devils were thumped by Tottenham last time out and the former Juventus man was one of the players to come in for heavy criticism.

But on international duty, Pogba looked close to being back to his best in the 0-0 Nations League draw with Portugal.

Asked about Pogba’s performance, Lloris told M6: "Very present, he wanted the ball. He put on his voice. He is a leader, and we felt it. After a year of absence, we felt him in the legs. But he was fine.

On the game itself, Lloris added: “There was a high quality opponent in front. In the second half, we played higher and there was a lot more activity.

"In the first half there was a tendency to retreat, perhaps because of the fear. Afterwards, there was quality in the other side. Everyone had their period.

"In the last 30 metres, we lacked sharpness. We would have preferred to win, but it’s a solid performance."

Ahead of the game in Paris, Pogba sparked more controversy after admitting it would be his dream to join Real Madrid.

“Playing for Real Madrid? All footballers would love to do it," he said. "It is a dream for me, so why not one day?

“As I said, I am at Manchester, I love my club, it is a joy for me and I will do my best to help the club be back where it belongs.”

Pogba has one year left on his deal at Old Trafford and went on to confirm that talks over a new contract have yet to begin, with his future looking increasingly uncertain.

“I did not speak with Ed Woodward about renewing my contract, for now I am at Manchester and I focus on getting back to my best form, and that is all.

“I guess there will be a moment when the club will make me a proposal, or not.”
