Inter Milan ‘looking to snap up Barcelona defender Junior Firpo with Italian side targeting a loan with option to buy’ as LaLiga outfit look to reduce hugely-inflated wage bill
- Left back Junior Firpo has played just five matches for Barcelona this season
- Inter Milan nearly signed Firpo last summer as part of a Lautaro Martinez deal
- That move fell through and the Spaniard has played little under Ronald Koeman
- Atalanta and Napoli have also been linked with moves for the 24-year-old
Inter Milan are interested in securing a January deal for Barcelona defender Junior Firpo, according to reports in Spain.
The 24-year-old is surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp and reports have already suggested he is one of the handful of players able to secure a move away next month to help reduce the club’s enormous wage bill.
And according to Diario Sport, Serie A outfit Inter are the most likely destination for left back Firpo, with Antonio Conte’s men reportedly looking to seal an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

The report adds that Atalanta and Napoli are also in the running, but claims the likelihood of either side usurping their Serie A rivals for his signature is remote.
The report also mentions that Firpo nearly joined the San Siro outfit as part of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez’s potential move to Barcelona, which ultimately failed to bear fruit.
The former Real Betis star has made just five appearances for Ronald Koeman’s men in 2020-21, playing just 192 minutes this season.
His only LaLiga outing came in a substitute appearance at Osasuna late last month, with all of his other minutes coming in the Champions League, including the full game away at Dynamo Kiev.

But Dutchman Koeman has largely preferred to field summer signing and natural right back Sergino Dest at left back ahead of Firpo, who was also out of favour under Ernesto Valverde and Quique Setien.
If Firpo does depart, Barcelona are not expected to look for a replacement next month, with the club having high hopes for Barcelona B’s Alejandro Balde, who is reportedly close to a promotion to the first-team setup.
Martin Braithwaite, Samuel Umtiti, Matheus Fernandes, Carles Alena and Riqui Puig are also said to feature on the list of players available for transfer next month.
