The 37-year-old has made it clear that he wants to leave Old Trafford and Ronaldo hopes to join a Champions League club.

Until now, Ten Hag had been adamant that Ronaldo was not for sale and the club have backed the Dutchman’s stance.

However, Ronaldo’s mood since returning to the club just over a fortnight ago has been sour and Ten Hag feels he’s been a disruption to his plans.

The Dutchman is now open to selling Ronaldo, even if it means going without a replacement for the remainder of the season.

That would be a major gamble given Anthony Martial’s struggles in front of goal but Ten Hag feels the spirit of the group could dramatically improve without Ronaldo.

However, the Manchester Evening News say that Glazer, the club’s co-chairman, is against selling Ronaldo.

Though he hasn’t attended a match in over three years, Glazer signs off every United transfer and he’s intervened in the past to block moves.

Glazer denied Jose Mourinho his wish to sell Martial in 2018, forcing the Frenchman to stay at Old Trafford.

And it appears he’s doing so again, with Glazer unwilling to listen to offers for the Portugal captain.

United have suffered a disastrous start to the season, losing their first two matches to Brentford and Brighton.

Liverpool are next up for the Red Devils at Old Trafford next Monday, with both sides seeking their first wins of the season.
