Khabib jokingly told Sir Alex Ferguson he would "smash him up" after wine offer

Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed his hilarious response to Sir Alex Ferguson asking whether he wanted a glass of wine after Manchester United’s draw with Everton.

The undefeated UFC legend was in attendance at Old Trafford as United were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Everton.

The 33-year-old even posed in the stands for a picture while holding up the iconic no.7 shirt worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, but had to wait until the 57th minute to see his friend come on.

Khabib was then greeted by the likes of Sir Alex, Usain Bolt and Patrice Evra post-match where he was offered a drink by the legendary United manager, but the Dagestani diffused a potentially awkward exchange with a light-hearted joke.

The former UFC Lightweight Champion said: "He [Ferguson] asked me if I wanted a glass of wine. I'm thinking, how do I explain to him I'm a Muslim?

"So I said, drinking is not good for me because if I do then I will smash all of you guys up.

"He replied, 'OK, best if you don't drink.’”

Speaking to the official club website, Khabib also revealed how he was not in fact at the stadium to support the home side despite being in the company of club legends and receiving a stadium tour.

Khabib explained: “I’ll be honest, I’m not a sole Manchester United fan. I’m more of a fan of all football.”

The fighter went on to talk about his meeting with Ronaldo and Paul Pogba before the match, though he was surprised that neither of the two stars would be starting the match.

He said: “Yeah we spoke a little and we discussed today’s match, but they told me they’re going to be on the bench!

“With Paul being a World Cup winner and Cristiano a European Championship winner, they have a lot of titles. It was interesting for me to talk to them and compare things with them.”
