Confusion reigns at Barcelona with mixed signals emerging after showdown talks between manager Ronald Koeman and the president, Joan Laporta.
Barcelona had an underwhelming end to their LaLiga campaign, finishing third and failing to stay in the race until the final day of the season after a 2-1 defeat by Celta Vigo in their penultimate league match.
On top of that, Barcelona were dumped out of the Champions League in the round of 16 but won the Copa del Rey. Koeman and Laporta met on May 25 to look back across the club’s campaign.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Koeman’s agent Rob Janssen told Cadena SER that he believes the Dutchman, a Nou Camp hero from his playing days, will continue as manager next season with suggestions of a new deal beyond 2021-22.
At present, Koeman’s Nou Camp contract will expire in the summer of 2022.
But a different report from Spanish-based journalist Samuel Marsden suggests that Barcelona will spend the next two weeks looking for a replacement for Koeman and that he is facing the end of his reign as manager after just one season.
Regardless of Koeman’s fate, Barcelona are pushing on with refreshing their squad albeit on a shoestring budget as the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic hits.
They are expected to swoop for Holland midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer with his Liverpool contract on the brink of expiring. The Dutchman is expected to pen a three-year deal.
He will, Barcelona hope, be joined by Manchester City duo Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia.
They are also chasing another Holland international in Lyon forward Memphis Depay, another player who would be available on a free transfer.

Questions remain over Lionel Messi’s future, as well, with the legendary striker’s contract expiring in the summer but as it stands there is little movement on him either staying at the club or a team making a sensational move to sign him.
Both Wijnaldum and Depay are well known to Koeman from his tenure as manager of Holland but it remains to be seen if he will be at the helm to work with them again next season.
Club legend Xavi, who is currently managing Al Sadd in Qatar, has been linked with taking the reigns at the Nou Camp if Koeman is to depart.
