Liverpool could potentially have received a boost in their summer transfer plans after Jose Mourinho’s appointment at Roma. According to The Mirror, the Portuguese could be willing to sell Lorenzo Pellegrini upon his arrival, allowing the Reds to strike.
The Merseyside outfit could well be on the hunt for a midfielder this summer with Georginio Wijnaldum set to depart Anfield at the end of his contract.
Pellegrini could be available as a potential successor with Mourinho eyeing a number of midfield recruits ahead of his appointment at the Stadio Olimpico in the summer.
The Portuguese, who is set to replace countryman Paulo Fonseca in the eternal city, has been linked with swoops for a number of his former players including Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Nemanja Matic.
Should he secure any of those signings, this could then see Pellegrini sold.
Despite currently being acting captain of the Italian giants, he only has a year left on his current deal.

A reported £25m release clause in that deal could see Liverpool take advantage.
According to The Mirror, if he has not agreed a new deal by the summer then he will be sold by the club’s hierarchy.

Having previously progressed through Roma’s academy, he was initially sold to Serie A rivals Sassuolo.

After impressing, he was brought back to the Italian capital where he has now gone on to make 148 appearances and scored 19 goals.
He is currently in the midst of his most impressive campaign yet having scored nine and notched a further eight assists in all competitions from the centre of the park.
Pellegrini has already made his talents clear against English clubs this season.
He was on the scoresheet against Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend from the penalty spot, a game which Roma went on to lose 6-2.
The Italian giants were also defeated at the weekend ahead of hosting the Red Devils in the UEFA Europa League semi final second-leg.
It is a run of results that has seen Pellegrini’s team-mate Gianluca Mancini apologise to the club’s supporters.
He said: “We are going through a really tough spell. We came here after the defeat in Manchester, which really took the wind out of our sails.
“Tonight we didn’t bounce back, we deserved to lose.
“We need to apologise to the fans, stay quiet and do everything we can to turn this form around and finish the season as well as possible.”
