Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly had Bayern Munich starlet Jamal Musiala on his list of dream targets for several years and there may soon be an opportunity to bring the midfielder back to England. Musiala has emerged as one of the brightest talents in world football since leaving Chelsea for Bayern Munich.
Still just 20 years of age, the youngster has already racked up 100 Bundesliga matches and finished last season with 16 goals and 16 assists in all competitions. Clubs all over Europe will undoubtedly be trying to steal Musiala away from the Allianz Arena in the coming years.
And Liverpool could easily find themselves in the mix with Sport Bild claiming Klopp is a huge fan of the versatile midfielder. There may even be an opening in the next few years for a club like Liverpool to make their move.
The report goes on to state that Bayern are in a ‘dangerous situation’ as Musiala is currently refusing to hold talks over a new contract. Negotiations are said to have been suspended for ‘the next few months’ as Musiala tries to get a picture of where he sits in Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
Despite his role in winning the Bundesliga for Bayern last season, he’s been overlooked for the starting line-up on a few occasions already. Musiala had to settle for a role off the bench in their recent 3-0 win over Freiburg with Thomas Muller preferred in the attacking midfield role.
Liverpool have already undergone a midfield transformation over the past few months with Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch joining in the summer. Szoboszlai plays in a similar role to Musiala at the front of a midfield three, but more and more systems now have a fluid structure to them that could see both play together.

Klopp ultimately has the final say on transfers and if there’s an opportunity to bring in one of the world’s brightest prospects then it’s hard to pass that up. Musiala had been touted as a potential target for Liverpool this past summer as an alternative to Jude Bellingham.
The Reds ultimately pulled out of the running to sign Bellingham with the England international now breaking records in Spain with Real Madrid. Liverpool may argue they wouldn’t have been able to make the wholesale changes needed if they had signed Bellingham due to the finances involved.
But Klopp won’t want to miss out on another generational talent if Musiala becomes available.
