Liverpool fans have been left baffled by a decision to include backup shot-stopper Adrian in a mural for the club's 'Most Legendary Goalkeepers.'

The Spaniard features alongside the likes of Ray Clemence, Bruce Grobbelaar, Jerzy Dudek, Pepe Reina and Alisson Becker with the artwork paying homage to past and present Reds stars between the sticks.

But some fans have taken issue with Adrian's appearance on the mural due to his subpar performances at Anfield.

The 34-year-old produced a famous horror show against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League two seasons ago as the Reds were dumped out of the competition.

Two calamitous errors saw a 2-1 lead quickly evaporate with Marcos Llorente and Alvaro Morata capitalising on some shoddy goalkeeping.

That abysmal performance still lives long in the memory for some fans who have now taken to Twitter to mock his inclusion on the new mural.

"Remove Adrian from this please. I will not support the club any longer if he isn't painted over," stated one supporter.

"You included Adrian?????????" said another.

Was Adrian right to be included in the new mural for legendary Liverpool goalkeepers? Let us know in the comments section.

"REMOVE ADRIAN IMMEDIATELY," replied one fan.

While another mentioned there should be a place for Champions League finalist Loris Karius.

They tweeted: "If Adrian is on there I think Karius should be too. I get that Adrian pretty much won us the super cup but Karius had a great season up until that 1 final game."

The mural is on display at Liverpool's training ground to inspire the next generation of Reds' 'keepers.

Commissioned by current goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, the 50-year-old highlighted his delight at the new design via the club's website.

He said: “I think for everyone who comes out to train here, it’s a little bit of motivation seeing all the top goalies that have been here – and if they want to get there themselves, they have to produce,”

“It tells something about the history of the club and what the goalkeepers have achieved here – and what the drive is from the club to achieve even more.

“But the motivation isn’t just for the young ‘keepers; there are goalkeepers on there like Ray Clemence and Bruce Grobbelaar who won a lot of trophies with the club, so if you want to top their records, you have to win more trophies and drive yourself on to be better every day.

“That’s the motivation for them and for the younger goalies, it is to show how hard you have to work to get to that position at the club.”
