Liverpool fans were left in stitches by "biggest bottlers" Manchester City as they crashed out of the Champions League to Real Madrid.

The Reds faithful couldn't believe their eyes as Real Madrid completed one of the greatest comebacks in European football history to force the semi-final second-leg on Wednesday to extra-time.

City looked all set to meet Liverpool in the competition's final with just minutes left on the clock, until super-sub Rodrygo netted two in as many minutes to send the Santiago Bernabeu wild. Riyad Mahrez's 73rd minute goal seemed an eternity ago as Karim Benzema was awarded a penalty in the first-half of extra-time, which he calmly converted to win the game.

And with City going from 5-3 up on aggregate to suddenly losing the tie 6-5, rival Liverpool fans took to Twitter to mock the "biggest bottlers" in Europe.

One Liverpool fan wrote: "Man City are genuinely the biggest UEFA Champions League bottlers."

Another tweeted: "Seeing City bottle UCL dreams, and getting to watch Liverpool Vs Real Madrid in the UCL finals brings a smile to my face, just hoping we can get revenge on Real Madrid."

A third asked: "Has there ever been a bigger bottle than this from City?"

A fourth added: "Man City currently trying to beat PSG for the crown of biggest Champions League bottlers."

Real Madrid now face Liverpool in what will be a rematch of the 2018 final. Jurgen Klopp's side suffered an agonising 3-1 defeat four years ago as Real extended their legendary record in the competition to 13 wins.
