  • The Red Devils were beaten 4-0 by the hosts at Anfield in an absolute drubbing

  • And Reds supporters shouted ‘olé’ as United passed it around in a half-time drill

Liverpool supporters brutally mocked Manchester United player during a half-time drill in the midst of the Red Devils’ thrashing on Tuesday.

Ralf Rangnick’s side were beaten 4-0 by the hosts at Anfield in an absolute drubbing, with Luis Diaz scoring after just five minutes and things only going downhill from there for United.

Mohamed Salah doubled the lead, and after the break Sadio Mane and then Salah again completed the rout in front of a gleeful home support and a distraught away section.

United struggled to affect the game at all, with just one shot on target, two shots overall, two corners, and 28 per cent possession.

Liverpool completed 897 passes to the visitors’ 354, and as United passed the ball to each other on the pitch in an attempt to warm up before the second half started, Reds fans took the opportunity to ruthlessly troll the opposing players.

Hilarious footage released on social media shows the team listlessly poking the ball around as mocking cheers ring in their ears – with the ten passes they make labelled ‘their best spell of the match’.

The Red Devils were thrashed 4-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s dominant side at Anfield on Tuesday night

A Liverpool supporter joked: ‘More passes strung together than the entire 90 minutes @ManUtd’.

The Reds fan that posted the video said: ‘That bit at half time, when the kick off was delayed and the United players knocked the ball about for a few mins to stay warm and the Kop cheered each pass. That was United’s best spell of the whole game.’

A United supporter then responded with the tweet: ‘Doesn’t get any more embarrassing’.

United’s often wayward passing resulted in a pass accuracy of 73 per cent, compared to Liverpool’s far superior 91 per cent.

The match marked United’s fourth-lowest possession total since the 2003-04 season. Their worst total was against Arsenal in 2017 but surprisingly, they won that game 3-1 at the Emirates. Paul Pogba was sent off in the 74th minute after all the goals had been scored.

Tuesday’s clash was also the lowest possession total for nearly two years – the most recent being a 2-0 win against Manchester City in March 2020.
