Liverpool are set to join the race for Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans as he nears the end of his current contract, but they won't be the only club vying for his signature.

The 25-year-old looks set to walk out on Brendan Rodgers and co. when the current Premier League season comes to an end after five full seasons with the Foxes.

Jurgen Klopp's side are reportedly interested in picking up the Belgium international without having to pay a transfer fee, but might need to offer a better deal than the champions of Spain and a Serie A powerhouse.

Italian outlet Calcio Mercato report that as well as Juventus, both Liverpool and Real Madrid are looking at Tielemans as his time at the King Power comes to an end.

The former Anderlecht and Monaco midfielder has made 167 appearances for Leicester in all competitions since his initial loan arrival in 2019, scoring 25 goals and adding the same amount of assists.

Klopp has regularly shuffled his midfield pack over the past year following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, with recent criticism being aimed at Jordan Henderson and James Milner.

Having been linked to Arsenal, Rodgers said of his wantaway midfielder before Tielemans played against them in August: "He’s a top professional.

"I think with the best players they always want to prove a point anyway and it doesn’t matter whether it’s against a team they’ve been linked with or not.

"Youri is a top international footballer so every game he plays, in actual fact every training session Youri plays, he is trying to be the best player he can be."

With the transfer window closing after Klopp said he didn't need another midfielder, he then admitted that a mistake was made, with the loan arrival of Arthur Melo yet to come good.

He said: "We are looking for it and if it is the right player we need him and if it is not the right player we don’t need him.

"[Our need] changed of course. I know we have had this discussion since it all started and I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and you were all right and I was wrong. That’s the situation."
