Liverpool sent Sadio Mane and Timo Werner advice ahead of transfer window

The only benefit of Liverpool selling Sadio Mane would be the signing of Timo Werner.

That is the view of club legend Steve Nicol, who has admitted that Jurgen Klopp’s side could have to make do without Mane next season.

The Senegal talisman might fancy a new challenge after he claims the Premier League title, with Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid ready to spend big in the summer.

"That's only any good if you bring in Timo Werner," Nichol said of Mane’s possible move.

"Unfortunately there aren't many [players like Werner] around. What if Werner wants to go elsewhere?

"The way it's being talked about is if it's done. 'Timo Werner says he wants to go, so it's done'.

"Guess what, there was a guy called Kylian Mbappe who told everyone he wanted to go to Real Madrid, he ended up at PSG."

The Germany international recently opened up on how proud he was to be linked to the European champions, which hints that he is open to a move.

“I won’t rule out anything,” the 24-year-old said when asked about the links.

“We have the European Championship in the summer, I want to focus on that tournament. About everything else I will think after the season.”

The news that Euro 2020 has been pushed back an entire year could give Werner more time to consider his future, with Klopp’s influence a big part of his interest.

He added: “There’s one of the best managers in the world with Jurgen Klopp.

“Many things suggest that I would maybe fit in [at Liverpool] very well with my playing style.

“But I don’t think about that at the moment because we have so much to do with Leipzig.”
