Liverpool have had to settle for a loan move for Marko Grujic after failing to sell him in the transfer window.
The Serbia international has joined Porto on a temporary basis.
It comes despite the fact that the Reds insisted that he would not be loaned out.
Instead, they were determined to sell him after pricing him at £18m – but could not find any suitors.
A move to the Bundesliga was on the cards after two years on loan at Hertha Berlin.
Grujic impressed during his time in the German capital and Anfield chiefs hoped that would spark a bidding war.
But that failed to materialise, with just Werder Bremen taking an interest in the midfielder.
And they did not stump up the asking price while Liverpool would not negotiate.
It has led to a breakdown in a permanent transfer but Grujic has still left – on a loan deal the Reds never wanted.
However, Jurgen Klopp was happy to see him move to Porto – who are in the Champions League.
And they face Manchester City in the group stage, along with Olympiacos and Marseille.
Porto have been active in the past 24 hours after the Premier League transfer window shut.
In Portugal, the market remains open and the Primeira Liga champions have signed three players on loan from England.
As well as Grujic, Chelsea star Malang Sarr and West Ham ace Felipe Anderson made the move to the Dragons.
Going forward in the future, the Liverpool star will hope to impress while at Porto and make an impression on Klopp.
He was the first signing of the German manager but has failed to make much of an impression at Anfield.
