Liverpool are now nine points behind Manchester City who are comfortably at the top of the Premier League table, and the Reds have been warned that Jurgen Klopp may make a decision if they struggle to knock them off their perch again.

Jurgen Klopp will go down as one of the finest managers in Liverpool’s prestigious history for his incredible impact since arriving at Anfield in 2015.

The German delivered a sixth Champions League crown after falling at the final hurdle the year before, and after a breathtaking season Liverpool ended their wait for Premier League silverware.

They looked to be going toe-to-toe with Manchester City once again for the league this season, but their recent slip up against Leicester has left them well off the pace in third.

And Liverpool have been warned that another season failing to catch City could lead Klopp to making a big decision.

Klopp arrived from Borussia Dortmund in 2015 and the German win back-to-back titles during his time at the club, edging Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga between 2010 and 2012.

However, after dominating, Dortmund failed to keep it up and Klopp found himself fighting a losing battle in Germany and eventually joined Liverpool for a new challenge.

It’s because of this that Liverpool have been warned by Talksport’s Adrian Durham that the German could be tempted to leave the club at the end of the season, if they fail to catch City once again.

Durham said: “It reminds me of the time at Dortmund when he’d won two titles and then couldn’t get near Bayern.

“He’s done what he can, he’s won the European Cup, he’s won the Premier League with Liverpool, is he going to get near Man City again?

“I think most of us would say that’s going to be a really difficult ask.

He’s getting all this criticism, I think by the end of the season it might just be that Jurgen Klopp says ‘you know what I’ve had a great time here, we’ve all been brilliant together, it;s been fantastic and memorable. I can see that happening.”

Klopp’s current deal expires in 2024, and following Steven Gerrard’s return to the Premier League, the German became rather frustrated with potential rumours that the Liverpool legend could replace him in the future.

The German spoke about his position following Gerrard’s appointment at Aston Villa, and said: “I don’t have to think about this. It’s over when it’s over, but it’s far away from being over, so let’s focus on that.”

But Klopp has appeared extremely frustrated recently, as he continues to bemoan the tradition English festive schedule, something he continues to disagree with.

Klopp may have found success with Dortmund, but he has taken an almighty step up since becoming Liverpool manager, and although the league is starting to look as competitive as ever, the Reds continue to be in every competition this season, so another Champions League success could be on the cards.

The German’s future remains at Liverpool for now, but with Real Madrid showing a long-term interest in Klopp, he may fancy another change of scene in the coming years.
