Manchester City want to sign Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico in the January transfer window, according to reports. City were linked with Argentina international Tagliafico during the summer. Manager Pep Guardiola wants to strengthen on the left side of defence and was also linked with Alex Telles late in the recently-closed window.
Reports claimed City were offered the chance to sign Telles from Porto.
However, rivals Manchester United completed a deadline day deal for the 27-year-old Brazil international instead.
City have had problems at left-back in recent seasons, with Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko both struggling with injury issues.
And that is set to prompt Guardiola into action in January.

But the former Barcelona boss is clearly not happy with the options available to him.
Tagliafico, whose contract at Ajax expires in the summer of 2022, has made 102 appearances for the Dutch club since his arrival from Independiente in 2018.

United were also linked with Tagliafico before opting to move for Telles.
Telles could make his United debut in the Premier League clash away at Newcastle this Saturday.
He revealed his delight at joining the Red Devils after putting pen to paper on a four-year contract last week.
“To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour,” Telles said.
“You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.
“I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to pull on the famous shirt.”
Telles is set to provide competition to Luke Shaw for the left-back spot.
And manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Telles can add true quality to his squad.
“First and foremost I welcome Alex to United,” Solskjaer said.
“He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for.
“He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad. Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United.”
