Man Utd already have ‘four 2024 targets’ as Evan Ferguson transfer belief rises

Man Utd have wasted well over £600m under Glazers as Jadon Sancho 'set to leave'

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has already identified four positions he plans to strengthen next summer, according to reports. The Dutchman has spent big in his first two summer transfer windows at Old Trafford, and United are also preparing for a busy period at the end of the current campaign.

The 2023 window only slammed shut earlier this month, but Ten Hag has allegedly planned ahead for the third year of his project.

He splashed £229million on five permanent transfers in his maiden season before committing another £188m on four more – and Sofyan Amrabat’s season-long loan – this summer.

Ten Hag has upgraded several positions with his own targets, but his rebuild is far from done after a positive start.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United plan to recruit further reinforcements at full-back, centre-back, central midfield and attack next year.

The Red Devils are said to retain an interest in Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba for the two defensive positions.

Ten Hag considered approaches for both this summer, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s improvement and Harry Maguire’s stay shelved intentions.

Amrabat poses as a potential low-cost midfield target, given United have an option to make his move permanent for just over £21m.

But Ten Hag could be considering Casemiro succession approaches, so a younger option could join Amrabat in M16 next season.

The report claims United are also circling Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson, who is showing significant promise in the Premier League.

The 18-year-old scored his first senior hat-trick in a 3-1 win against Newcastle United before the international break.

Ferguson penned a new long-term contract at the Amex Stadium earlier this year, tying him down until 2028.

But there is a belief that he could secure a big-money move away from Brighton next summer if heavyweight interest arrives as expected.

United splurged £72m to sign 20-year-old frontman Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in August, who Ten Hag seemingly views as the focal point of his attack for years to come.

But the Dutchman reportedly wants another top-quality goalscorer amid uncertainty surrounding a number of current options amongst his ranks.

Anthony Martial is nearing the end of his contract, and many expect United to opt against triggering a one-year extension next summer.

Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho seems destined to leave as early as January after his public spat with Ten Hag.

Antony’s United career is also on hold, with the 23-year-old currently on a leave of absence as he addresses allegations of abuse from three former girlfriends.
