Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addresses ‘division’ and Bruno Fernandes’ current mood

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted there’s no ‘division’ within his squad. The Red Devils go into Saturday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle having lost two of their opening three matches. And he’s also defended Bruno Fernandes ahead of that showdown.

Manchester United went into the season with hopes high they’d be able to challenge for the Premier League title, having finished third last term.

However, Solskjaer’s side have already lost to Crystal Palace and Tottenham so far.

Palace won 3-1 on the opening day of the campaign at Old Trafford and Spurs ran out 6-1 winners when they faced off shortly before the international break, with Jose Mourinho getting one over on his old side.

In the time since, reports have suggested there’s ‘division’ within the United ranks.

It’s also been claimed that Fernandes has lost faith with Solskjaer and doesn’t think the 47-year-old is up for the task of steering the team back to the top of the Premier League table.

But, speaking before the game against Newcastle, Solskjaer has insisted that isn’t the case.

“We’ve been in touch with the ones that have been away and it’s one of those things you have to get over as soon as you can,” he said.

“We know any little chance from outside wants to create division.

“Bruno spoke well the other day we are united and have to stay together, we can’t listen to everyone outside, gotta get on with it.

“Bruno has lost two league games and came in February, it’s been two in quick succession, he’s not used to losing league games – but welcome to Manchester United.

“This is what happens, [people are] gonna try and create a division between us but it’s not gonna happen, this is a group that wants to work together and stick together.”

United could give new signings Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri debuts against Newcastle.

The pair arrived on transfer deadline day, as well as Edinson Cavani.

And Solskjaer added: “We’re looking forward to integrating them into the group.

“Facundo has been in training two days, very exciting, young enthusiastic player with some attributes we don’t have, maybe one for the future, not just now, still only 18.

“Alex (Telles) came in yesterday and did his recovery after a long long flight from Sao Paulo.

“Edinson (Cavani) has still not been with the group because of quarantine, all three have got something different to what we have and will come in and help us.

“The group are looking forward to having them join in.”

There was some recent good news for United with Marcus Rashford getting an MBE.

And Solskjaer said of that: “Oh, well, we are extremely proud once again that Marcus gets this recognition and I’m sure his family and Marcus must have enjoyed that.

“For me as his manager I know how great he is as a person and how much he cares for others.

“We’re extremely proud and just want him to carry on his good job on and off the pitch.”
