Manchester United will face two problems if they wait until next summer to sign Jadon Sancho, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth. Sancho remains United’s top target ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline. However, Borussia Dortmund are holding out for a fee of £108million.
United are not prepared to offer that much for the England international.
But Sheth says the Red Devils would face more competition next summer for Sancho’s signature.
And he claims United would have to ensure they qualify for the Champions League again or the 20-year-old would not want to join them.
“I just wonder if Manchester United’s strategy is to bring in a short-term option for the season and then go back in for Jadon Sancho next summer,” Sheth said on the Transfer Show.

“If that strategy is true, I think it’s a risky one. Firstly, United might not be the only show in town next summer.
“There might be other clubs in European football – Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool perhaps – who would think they can now do a deal for Jadon Sancho.

“Secondly, Jadon Sancho, one of the provisos he has about his next club – be it Borussia Dortmund or someone else – is to be playing in the Champions League.
“Manchester United can guarantee Champions League football this season, they cannot guarantee Champions League football next season.

“I’m sure they will hope to finish in the top four or maybe even win the Champions League this season to qualify for it next season, but it is not a guarantee.
“So those are two big risks that Manchester United will be taking if they don’t go for Jadon Sancho in this window.”
Meanwhile, European football expert Julien Laurens doubts if United will qualify out of their Champions League group even if they sign Porto left-back Alex Telles.
United have been drawn in a group with Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir.
“Even if they make a move, even if they sign Alex Telles for example at left-back, I’m still not sure that they will go through that group stage,” Laurens told ESPN FC.
“I think Leipzig is a very dangerous team, I think it is a very tricky draw for United.
“We will see the scheduling and fixture list and when they play who and where, and maybe then we will have a better idea.
“But it’s a very difficult draw I think for them for the top-two finishes because I think PSG will finish first in the group and it will be between Leipzig and them.
“Right now I think Leipzig have a lot more momentum than United have.”
