Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino after entering talks with the Paris St-Germain boss this week.
The Red Devils are in need of a new manager after parting company with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the weekend, a decision which came on the back of Saturday's resounding 4-1 defeat away at Watford.
In a statement confirming Solskjaer's exit, United revealed that Michael Carrick is taking temporary charge of first-team affairs until an interim coach is appointed.
But according to Manchester Evening News, club officials are growing confident of prising Pochettino away from PSG and making him their new permanent manager.
It is believed the two parties are currently locked in discussions over a potential deal to bring Pochettino back to the Premier League two years after he was sacked by Tottenham.
PSG are understood to be demanding £10million in compensation for the 49-year-old, who only took charge at the the Parc des Princes back in January.

PSG players think new manager is 'imminent' with Pochettino in talks with Man Utd
United forked out £7.75million to relieve Solskjaer of his duties, meaning it will cost them close to £18million to make their desired managerial change.
However, the club is still yet to submit a formal offer for Pochettino despite pinpointing him as their No.1 target.
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers was also believed to be on their shortlist, as was Ajax counterpart Erik ten Hag.
Yet the Foxes' disappointing run of recent form put Rodgers out of the running, while Ajax are not expecting a change of coach anytime soon.
Zinedine Zidane, who was never in contention of replacing Solskjaer at Old Trafford, is on PSG's radar should Pochettino move to Manchester.
The Frenchman has been out of work since calling time on his second spell as Real Madrid boss in May.
