Manchester United fans reckon Jose Mourinho was right about Paul Pogba after the club were hit with a transfer bombshell by the midfielder's agent Mino Raiola.
Super agent Raiola said on Monday that Pogba's United career was "over", insisting it would be best for all parties if the midfielder was allowed to leave in the January transfer window.
Pogba has been continually linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Real Madrid, Juventus, Paris-Saint Germain and Barcelona all having been touted as potential destinations for the World Cup winner.
It remains to be seen whether manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will play Pogba against RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday – after Raiola said in an interview with Tuttosport it was "over" for his client at United, and needed "a new team, a change of air".
Pogba has so far not commented himself on Raiola's remarks.
But it is not the first time the super agent has spoken out about Pogba's situation, having been engaged in an ongoing war of words criticising United over their handling of his client.
The saga is reminiscent of a couple of years ago when United's record £89million signing was stripped of the vice-captaincy at a time when he was being heavily linked with a move away.
In September 2018, manager Mourinho relieved Pogba of the burden of being vice-captain following a shock Carabao Cup defeat to Derby, and was seen having a training-ground row with the player the following day.
When asked about the spat afterwards, Mourinho said: "No player is bigger than the club.
Man Utd fans enraged at Paul Pogba’s Instagram after Mino Raiola’s transfer interview
“If I'm happy with his work he plays. If I'm not happy he doesn't play."
Mourinho was sacked as United boss a couple of months later – but fans have said the manager did the right thing by putting Pogba in his place.
"Mourinho was right," said one Twitter user in response to a tweet from Gary Neville blasting the timing of Raiola's comments.
Another fan joined the thread, saying: "Yes. 100% spot on correct".
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mino Raiola's heated feud over Paul Pogba to reignite this week
One supporter said Sir Alex Ferguson had let a young Pogba leave United for Juventus in 2012 because he was "lazy and arrogant".
And another said Solskjaer should drop Pogba, saying: "A strong manager wouldn't even have him in the squad any more after this."
The summer after Mourinho's sacking, Pogba was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and even said it would be "a dream" to play for the La Liga giants.
And for one fan, that was the time United should have sold the midfielder.
"A strong club with a winning mentality wouldn’t have kept him after his comments last year," he said. "Man said he wanted a new challenge."
