Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Andre Silva with the news that the Eintracht Frankfurt striker has a cut-price release clause in his contract. Silva has been in remarkable form for the Bundesliga side, scoring 24 goals in all competitions for Adi Hutter’s side this season.

That form has attracted the attentions of several of Europe’s top clubs, with United one of the teams eyeing a move for the 25-year-old.

With Edinson Cavani edging closer to a departure from the Red Devils after just one season at Old Trafford, United are set to make a new striker one of their summer priorities.

Behind Cavani, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s forward options are limited, with his potential exit seriously harming their chances of being able to challenge for the Premier League title.

The Red Devils are also chasing Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, but will need to explore secondary options in case they cannot complete a move for the Norwegian.

With Silva impressing in the German top-flight, he has in fact scored more goals than the high-rated Haaland, he makes a prime candidate for a move to United.

And Solskjaer’s side have been handed a big boost in their pursuit of the Portugal international, with reports that he has a relatively small release clause in his contract.

Silva signed a three-year deal with Frankfurt last summer and Sport1 claim that the contract contains a £26million release clause.

In a further boost to the Red Devils, the German news organisation also report that Silva’s release clause can be triggered this summer.

It has been a lacklustre campaign for many of United’s leading attacker, with only Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scoring more than 10 goals.

Though they have scored the second-most number of goals in the Premier League this season, it has been widely accepted that the squad requires a consistent goalscorer to lead the line.

Haaland is the obvious name to fill that gap but Dortmund are expected to demand in the region of £150m for his services.

It is also believed that the player himself would prefer a move to Manchester City or Real Madrid, further pouring cold water over United’s hopes of signing him.

Silva on the other hand has previously admitted that rumours of a move to United have given him extra motivation.

“I’ve heard rumours, but that is it. Rumours are rumours,” the striker told O Jogo at the start of March.

“At the end of this season, it’s something that gives me more motivation to work – it’s a sign that what I have accomplished has borne fruit, and the path has been good.”

One potential concern to United could be that this season of goalscoring appears to be an outlier for Silva, who has scored more than 10 league goals in just three other seasons over the course of his career.
