Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial could all prevent Manchester United from pursuing a £27million move for Hirving Lozano. The Red Devils have been linked with the Napoli winger and could pursue a transfer in January or next summer, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag was reportedly keen on signing another winger at the end of the summer transfer window even after securing an £80m move for Brazilian star Antony. Lozano was rumoured to be of interest, while United were also monitoring Cody Gakpo’s situation at PSV.

Lozano is apparently available for £27m, with Napoli keen to sell the Mexican. United are tempted to enquire about a potential deal in January.

However, their current wingers could prevent a move from happening. United already have a wealth of talent in wide positions and an improvement in form from those individuals could mean club chiefs may ditch their plans to sign Lozano.

According to Spanish publication Marca, United are weighing up a move for Lozano but Antony, Rashford, Sancho and Martial could all stop United from signing the Napoli winger if their form improves under Ten Hag ahead of the January window. Antony got off to an excellent start, scoring a debut goal against Arsenal, but the other three have sometimes struggled for consistency.

Rashford has enjoyed a positive start to the season, although a recent injury could hamper his progress. He has scored three goals and is just one strike away from equalling his tally from last season of four.

Sancho and Martial have shown glimpses of evidence that they can excel under Ten Hag. There was big expectation placed on the shoulders of Sancho following his £75m move from Borussia Dortmund a year ago, but he is yet to deliver the form he produced in Germany.

That is what has prompted United to pursue Lozano, although that plan will change if the club’s current forwards improve.

Ten Hag was backed with huge funds during the summer, although the late plan to sign an additional winger to Antony was ditched. United were keen to give the Dutchman the best possible chance of getting off to a good start after joining from Ajax.

Antony was the most expensive transfer United completed, while they also spent huge funds on former Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro and Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. Left-back Tyrell Malacia has impressed since his move from Feyenoord, keeping Luke Shaw out of the team. Free agent Christian Eriksen has also performed well.

It is unclear how much the Old Trafford hierarchy will spend in January, although the huge outlay in the summer will surely prevent another spending spree in the winter.
