Manchester United want to sign Jack Grealish in the summer transfer window, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a huge fan of the Aston Villa star. And, if they land him, then the No 11 shirt would be the ideal number for him to wear at Old Trafford.
Manchester United look set to accelerate interest in Grealish, with the club reportedly hopeful of signing the Aston Villa star by the end of the week.
Given how well the 24-year-old has performed this season, that would certainly represent a coup.
Anybody thinking United wouldn’t go for more attacking players after landing Bruno Fernandes in January are mistaken. The club know they need more when it comes to creativity, with Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira all not up to scratch.
But Grealish just might be.
It’s not been the easiest of seasons for Aston Villa, with their Premier League status under threat from regulation.

But their skipper has stood up and made himself counted, giving Dean Smith’s side the best possible chance of staying in the top flight.
And if United do succeed in getting Grealish, they’ll be signing a player with the potential to be special.
So, should that happen, it’s only right that they give him the perfect squad number.
As things stand, that would be the No 11. It’s a shirt that carries significant weight at Old Trafford, just not as much as the No 7.
No 7 is likely to be given to Jadon Sancho should he touch down from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the campaign.

Man Utd: The Glazers planning to sack Solskjaer if one thing happens
And that means that No 11 would be the only top jersey number left for Grealish to wear.
For many years it was worn by Ryan Giggs, who is widely considered to be one of the best players in United’s history.
And players to take on the Wales manager’s old number have found it a difficult task.
Adnan Januzaj flourished under David Moyes and, when Louis van Gaal came in as the Scot’s replacement, he gave the winger Giggs’ old number.
But the Belgium international struggled with the burden and was never able to do it justice.
The same can be said of Anthony Martial.
The France international never wanted the No 11 but had no choice when Zlatan Ibrahimovic came in and immediately took his No 9.
And it’s no coincidence that Martial, now with his old number back, has enjoyed perhaps his best season for United to date.
Grealish is a strong personality. He’s confident, sure of himself and has the swagger that United so desperately need.
Therefore, all signs point to the 24-year-old getting the No 11 shirt at the end of the season.
