Manchester United are not expecting to do business in the January transfer window, despite remaining in the market for up to four new signings.
The Red Devils strengthened their squad with £75million worth of reinforcements in the previous summer and autumn transfer window, forking out £35million to prise Donny van de Beek away from Ajax.
Alex Telles joined in a £13million switch from Porto, youngster Facundo Pellistri completed a £7million move from Penarol and Edinson Cavani joined on a free transfer after leaving Paris St-Germain.
They also added 18-year-old Amad Diallo to their ranks, but the Atalanta starlet will not officially join until January.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s batch of new recruits have not made his side any more consistent, nevertheless, with United only winning six of their first 11 games of the campaign.
According to Manchester Evening News, club officials are keen to bolster Solskjaer’s squad with a ready-made winger, a centre-back, a right-back and a defensive midfielder.
However, the expectation at Old Trafford is that no business will be completed next month.
United chiefs intend to have a list of targets drawn up by the New Year and will only make a move in January if they become available.
Senior sources at the club are said to have described the January market as “fool’s gold” and “driven by the desperation of the buyer more than the motivation of the seller”.
Kieran Trippier, a boyhood United fan, has been linked with a move to the club in recent weeks, with the Atletico Madrid right-back set to enter the final 18 months of his current contract.

The Red Devils missed out on their desired move for Jadon Sancho in the summer but reports suggest the Borussia Dortmund winger remains on their wish list, while RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano is also understood to be a target.
And in defensive midfield, Solskjaer is said to be an admirer of West Ham ace Declan Rice and could therefore join Chelsea in the race for his signature.
