Man Utd hero Gary Neville slams club’s ‘embarrassing’ bid to seal Jadon Sancho transfer

Manchester United’s strategy to try and sign Jadon Sancho has been branded “embarrassing” by club icon Gary Neville. United are set to miss out on the Borussia Dortmund winger after failing to meet his asking price.

United are running out of time to stump up the cash to sign Sancho.

The Dortmund winger has been the club’s top transfer target for the entire summer, but has always been valued at £108million.

Dortmund have remained firm with their stance that they won’t lower their asking price, and won’t accept the fee paid in add-ons.

United reportedly made the decision earlier in the summer that they would wait until the final stages of the window before making their final move, in the hope that Dortmund would reduce their valuation.

However, that hasn’t happened, and United have been left scrambling around for an alternative

Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele was contacted regarding a loan deal, but the Catalans decided they would only let him go permanently this summer or with an obligation to buy next year.

And Neville tore into the club’s approach while speaking to Cadbury, saying the work should have been done behind the scenes to get the deal done.

He compared United’s situation to that of other top clubs, and criticised the Red Devils for having bids rejected in public.

Neville conceded: “Honestly, the Sancho thing is embarrassing. It’s embarrassing.

“It’s been going on for four months now. To put in a bid that gets rejected…

“Like you say, the smart clubs, they have the deals sorted behind the scenes.

“The agents are working hard, the club officials have agreed things, and when the bid goes in it’s accepted and the deal is done.

“Who puts bids in nowadays that aren’t accepted? That doesn’t happen that often.

“I know Leeds did it with Ben White, but they knew the player and they put bids in to create pressure on Brighton.

“But generally, clubs have the deals sorted, the agents know what the player is getting, the player knows what the clubs are getting, the clubs know what the others are getting.

“I just don’t understand it at all. I don’t know, it’s not great. It’s not great.”
