Man Utd icon Nani tells Rio Ferdinand stars have no hunger or desire to win

Manchester United icon Nani has ripped into the club's current crop of stars, slamming their lack of hunger and desire to win.

United these days are unrecognisable from the team that Nani left in 2015. The Portuguese winger was brought to the club by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2007 and enjoyed huge success at Old Trafford, winning four Premier League titles and the Champions League – accolades his contemporaries could only dream of.

The current iteration of the Red Devils find themselves bottom of the Premier League after two defeats in their opening two games, including that chastening 4-0 reverse at Brentford last weekend.

Speaking to fellow United icon Ferdinand on the Five podcast, Nani laid into Erik ten Hag's side for their lack of hunger, poor attitude and absence of desire.

"I don’t like to talk too much, I don’t talk about players but you can see there is no hunger, there is no attitude or desire to win in the club," Nani said. "You have a lot of talented players but they don't want to get tired. If I had to get sweaty to win, I would. They prefer to not sweat.

"You have talented players in the team with a lot of skills, they can shoot with their right foot and left but last game [vs Brentford], no one was shooting at goal, everyone was passing."

Ten Hag criticised his players after their 4-0 defeat to Brentford, admitting he needs new personnel. "We are, as a team, in a difficult process. You expect a different start. It's not what we expected," he said.

"We need new players. We need quality players. We are working on that and we'll do everything to convince them to come. We have to provide higher standards than what we did today."

Nani, Ferdinand and Ten Hag will all be hoping United's stars show considerable improvement when they take on Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday night.
