Manchester United were on the touted with signing Jadon Sancho all summer, but the only winger that arrived was Uruguayan teenager Facundo Pellistri, who joined from Penarol for £10m on transfer deadline day. Despite being just 18, it appears he will play a role in the first-team this season.
Manchester United’s question during negotiations to sign Facundo Pellistri have given away their plans for the winger this season.
Pellistri joined the Red Devils on transfer deadline day for a reported £10m from Uruguayan side Penarol.
At just 18, he would be expected to bed in with the youth team initially, before potentially making his way up to the first-team.

But that doesn’t seem to be how things will work for Pellistri, who appears to be a part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team plans already.
That’s according to Peñarol secretary Evaristo Gonzalez, who says that United were very clear in their negotiations that Pellistri would be part of the bubble as they need him to fill out their squad.
Uruguayan outlet Referí quotes Gonzalez as saying: “In the talks with Manchester, at one point they told me, ‘due to the club’s policy we don’t pay for release clauses so we send the money to the club directly and you fix that problem”.

Pellistri goes straight to the first team. Going to play. In the negotiation they asked me if I could guarantee them if he was in the bubble because they need him. Then it will be a matter of the manager if he uses him”.
Meanwhile, vice-president Rodolfo Cantino admits that Penarol were keen to get Pellistri back on loan for the season, but were turned down by United.

“Of course we asked for it,” said Cantino. “We tried in every way but they argued that they wanted the player now.
“It’s normal, when an European club buy a player, they travel immediately.
If that wasn’t indication enough, Pellistri has also been included in the 25-man squad for the Champions League and Premier League.
Pellistri could in theory make his debut in United’s next game, as they travel to Newcastle on October 17, following the international break.
