Man Utd set to offload player no longer wanted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with loan eyed

Manchester United are set to offload Marcos Rojo, with the defender no longer in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans at Old Trafford. Sheffield United are said to be interested in loaning the centre-back, who will be out of contract next summer.

Rojo appears to be on the verge of a move away from United before too long.

The defender, who isn’t in Solskjaer’s plans at Old Trafford, was tipped to depart this summer after playing on loan in Argentina last season.

He spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at Estudiantes, though injury limited him to just one appearance.

Estudiantes were interested in signing him permanently, but were unable to agree a fee with United.

As a result, he returned to Old Trafford, but was still nursing his injury.

He was included in United’s 25-man Premier League squad, though he is reportedly eager to secure a move away next summer.

And Sheffield United are reportedly lining up a loan bid, which would see him play regular football.

Chris Wilder has kept an eye on the Argentine’s recovery and is set to launch a move to bring him in on a six-month loan, according to The Sun.

The Blades, who have struggled this season and have only picked up one point from six games, are without key defender Jack O’Connell, who suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury last month.

He is set to undergo surgery, and Wilder is eager to line up a replacement.

Rojo was left out of United’s Champions League squad in the latest indication that his time at the club is drawing to a close.

According to reports, the defender was so desperate to leave this summer that he asked to have his contract torn up.

United vice-chairman Ed Woodward refused, however, meaning he was forced to stay at Old Trafford.

He was believed to be one of the players up for sale this summer as United looked to raise funds for Jadon Sancho.

Phil Jones was also expected to depart, but ended up staying with Rojo.

Now, the former Blackburn defender is being valued at £20million by United officials.
