Manchester United were humiliated by Liverpool at home on Sunday in arguably their worst defeat of the Premier League era – and Marcus Rashford has spoken out on the incident, stating he was ’embarrassed’ by what happened.

A Mohamed Salah brace following goals from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota meant Liverpool went into the interval four goals to the good at the home of their arch rivals.

Salah’s third improved Liverpool’s fortunes, before multiple fouls and a red card meant Liverpool had to slow the game down to avoid injuries.

Marcus Rashford was one of the players who started at Old Trafford, but following Paul Pogba’s red card he was hooked for Diogo Dalot in an attempt to prevent damage.

Having played poorly, Rashford had no room to complain about the score – although he didn’t apologise straight after the game.

But he issued an apology on Twitter on Wednesday night about the result, claiming he was embarrassed by the game.

“I can’t lie you haven’t heard from me on here because as a United fan I didn’t really know what to say after Sunday.

“I was embarrassed. I am embarrassed.

“Our fans are everything and you didn’t deserve that. We’re working hard to try and fix this.

“We have to redeem ourselves.”

Liverpool staff were baffled as to how the United squad didn’t pick up more than one red card in the game.
