Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been hopeful of a move away from Old Trafford since the start of last summer, with Real Madrid one of his most likely destinations. But, the Madrid board would rather Zinedine Zidane spent his money on 17-year-old Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes.
Pogba has been angling for a move for a number of months now, after claiming that he’s ready for a new challenge.
In June last year, Pogba said: “After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well… I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else.
“For me, I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great; some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody. Like everywhere else.”
Real Madrid and Juventus were the most likely to sign Pogba, but it appears that Zidane may be losing his battle to sign the United midfielder.

Zidane has always been keen on recruiting the World Cup winner.
But, the club’s chiefs have been more hesitant; especially with United demanding an incredibly large transfer fee.
Now, they would rather Zidane signed youngster Camavinga from Ligue 1 side Rennes, according to Marca.
Camavinga would compliment Casemiro in central midfield, as he’s more defensive than Pogba.

The France Under-21 star is also nine years younger than Pogba, which would offer Los Blancos more of a long-term option.
The club have been watching Camavinga for the past two years, with the player having impressed at youth level.
Real are now increasing their interest in the 17-year-old, with an eye to a summer transfer.
Any move for the midfielder would like cost around £60million, whereas Pogba could cost double that.

However, the board are still yet to convince Zidane that Camavinga is a more worthwhile signing than the United star.
Camavinga has drawn attention this season after his promotion to the first-team at Rennes.
He particularly impressed during a 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the second game of the season, where he recorded his first assist for the club.
The defensive midfielder scored his first goal for Rennes in December, in a 1-0 league win over Lyon.

Meanwhile, Pogba’s value has dropped this season, as he’s spent most of the campaign on the treatment table.
He’s made just two Premier League appearances since the end of August.
Pogba has just one year left on his current contract at United.
The 26-year-old re-signed for the club in 2016, in an £89m move.
