Man Utd team news for Watford clash with Scott McTominay back in contention

Scott McTominay could make his competitive return for Manchester United when they face Watford on Sunday, after recovering from a serious knee injury.

The Scottish international has been out of action since sustaining the problem in United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day but is now back in contention.

Having returned to full training, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed McTominay was in line to play in his pre-match press conference, saying: “I think he might be in the squad.”

“Scott had a rest day today, so let’s see how he is tomorrow. I’m not surprised [he’s back so soon] because that’s the type he is. He’s a physical specimen, he’s a leader.

“He never shirks a tackle and he brings everyone with him. He can sit with Nemanja [Matic] and Fred or he could be one of the runners in midfield.

“Talking about that here today, we don’t really make enough runs past the striker. Scott used to be a striker so he’s used to being in the box.”

With fellow forward Marcus Rashford still out with a back injury, Odion Ighalo could be in line to make his first start for the Red Devils against his former club Watford.

“Everyone says that [players raise their game] against their old team when they score, but there are also many games when you don’t score,” Solskjaer added.

“Odion is getting more and more minutes, but [whether he starts] depends on Mason as well of course, and how Anthony [Martial] is [after playing on Thursday].”
