Man Utd tell Mason Greenwood to improve attitude if he wants new contract

Manchester United have told Mason Greenwood to improve his attitude if he wants to be offered a new and improved deal at Old Trafford.

United are stalling on talks about a bumper new contract for the troubled teenager.

Club chiefs have become increasingly worried about the behaviour of Greenwood as he continues to endure a torrid period in his fledgling career.

Greenwood was thrown out of the England squad in September and flown home in shame after being caught smuggling women into the team hotel in Iceland.

The striker was forced to make a public apology and was given a dressing down from United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Since returning to the first team picture, the 19-year-old has been given further warnings about his poor time keeping and application in training.

Greenwood was dropped for the impressive win at Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League last month and also left out of the squad for last weekend's 3-1 triumph at Everton.

Greenwood has also been omitted from Gareth Southgate's latest England squad after the Three Lions boss held talks about him with Solskjaer.

United have concerns about Greenwood's lifestyle and believe it is affecting his ability to perform at the levels expected of him.

Club bosses were keen to give Greenwood a new deal at the start of this season to reward him for his startling progress during the last campaign.

Greenwood signed his current £40,000-a-week deal in October 2019 and is in line to pen an improved one that reflects his new status at both club and international level.

But United have made it clear he will have to earn one – and that he needs to show a significant improvement in his approach to the game before talks can begin.
