Manchester United transfer target Jules Kounde has apparently had his asking price slashed by Sevilla, but Arsenal are lurking and are ready to pounce. United are eager to sign a new centre-back this summer and have set their sights on the Frenchman.
United could end up signing Kounde for a discounted fee this summer, reports suggest.
The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new centre-back as the transfer window approaches.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to want a partner for Harry Maguire, and wants someone to come in ahead of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the pecking order.
They reportedly looked at Dayot Upamecano, but the RB Leipzig star decided to join Bayern Munich instead.
And now, El Gol Digital claims they have set their sights on Kounde, who has impressed at Sevilla.
The 22-year-old burst onto the scene last season, playing a starring role in the Spanish side’s Europa League triumph.
And he carried that good form into this season.
He’s been ever-present for Julen Lopetegui’s side, having made 38 appearances across all competitions.
He was previously valued at around £77million by Sevilla, but that asking price has apparently been slashed to just £51m.
Kounde is under contract until 2024, meaning Sevilla have no reason to sell any time soon.
But the club opted to lower their asking price after it seemed nobody would come close to the original £77m demand.
United will face competition for his signature, however, with Arsenal also interested.
The Gunners are set for a busy summer window, and could lose David Luiz at the end of his contract.
Sevilla seem resigned to losing Kounde at the end of the season, and it has been reported in Spain that his most likely destination would be the Premier League.
If he goes, Lopetegui has apparently earmarked Tottenham’s Davidson Sanchez as his ideal replacement.
Spurs crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday night, and there could be a mass exodus at the club this summer with Jose Mourinho’s position currently precarious.
